Here are some of the tricks:

Master Lock Shortcut

A master combination lock needs three specific numbers to open and you have 40 numbers to choose from. According to the manufacturers of the locks, there are 10 first numbers and 10 second numbers that have been assigned to be used in unlocking the locks.

The possible first numbers are the last number and 9 other numbers which are equally spaced apart on the lock dial. The possible second numbers are half way between the possible first numbers.

From the calculation, there are 64 possible combinations for the 1500 series of locks. The cool thing is that you can enter all the combinations within a few minutes; therefore, if you have forgotten the combination you only need to try the combinations and you will most definitely open the lock.

Soda Can

If you don’t want to try out the long series, you should consider using a piece of aluminum. Here you need to cut a triangular piece of aluminum out of a soda can. For ideal results you should ensure that the cut aluminum has the same size and shape as the guitar pick.

You should wrap the metal around the left-hand shaft until it points downwards and then push the point down into the lock. If it doesn’t get to the point where you want you should use a pair of pliers to push it further.

You should then rotate the metal around the shaft towards the inside of the hoop. To open the lock you should pull the hoop.

Rotational Reversal

Master locks are designed to be opened in the right-left combination. This means that you have to turn the dial right to arrive to the first number. To arrive to the second number you need to turn the dial left and then to arrive at the final number you need to dial right.

While this is the case, you can use the left-right-left combination to open the lock. All you need to do is to do trial-and-error and you will get the right combination.
